Michael and his Wife Sharon have lived in Central Florida for nearly 50 years. Michael was unable to leave his home without his wife Shaeon’s help. She was terrified of an emergency where they needed leave the house quickly but he would be unable to navigate the steps to get out. On a clear Saturday morning in April, volunteers from UCF, Siemens, and the Knights of Columbus gathered to change Michael and Sharon’s lives forever. Using funds raised by CIL and plans donated by Cuhaci & Peterson Architects, the volunteers set about building a ramp that ensured the independence, safety, and dignity of Michael and Sharon.
Watch how CIL donors and volunteers transformed Michael and Sharon’s house into an accessible home that allows them to live independently. Michael and Sharon no longer need to rely on friends, neighbors, or each other in order to leave their home.
